Free Motion Mavericks - Week17 - Birds in the Sky

The free motion landscape that I started last week is now well and truly finished.  Last night I did the last handstitched details - birds in the sky - and hung it on wall, where it is going to stay for a very short while.  In the next day or so I shall be taking it to Midsomer Quilting so it can be included in their forthcoming 12 x 12 Exhibition.  The theme is music, and when I deliver the quilt I am going to see if they can guess which piece of music it represents.  So rather than spoil the fun of the quiz, this is all that I am showing for the moment.

Update - you can now see the whole quilt here.

The scrappy cot quilt that I finished a couple of weeks ago is now bound.  I wasn't sure whether the strawberries print I used for the binding was going to look right - the print seemed a little too fussy and I thought it was going to fight with the jolly pink nursery print in the border.  It was the only fabric that wasn't going to look hideous, so it had to go on.

Once it was on it looked fine.  The rusty red in both fabrics pulled the whole thing together.

So here goes for week 17...

Firstly, many thanks to  CaroleHilary and Gwyned for linking up last time  - a great collection of projects.

If you love free motion quilting, whether you are a beginner just taking the plunge, or you have reached the stage where you can do ostrich feathers with your eyes shut and still achieve perfect symmetry, then please link up.

Remember, FMQ is FMQ, whether your machine was made last week, or it is older than your granny.

Here are the very easy and slightly elastic rules:-

1.  Link up with any recent post, ideally from the last week but within the last month, which features a free motion quilting project, whether it is a work in progress or a finish.

2.  Link back to this post in your own post and/or grab the linky button for your blog's sidebar.
3.  Visit as many of the other participants as possible and say hello in the comments box.

4.  The link up will remain open for four days, from midnight to midnight GMT for the long weekend, Friday to Monday.

So far bloggers from USA, England, Wales, Australia, Canada, Germany and Holland have taken part.  The first participant from each new country will get a special mention the following week.

Linking up with Kelly's blog My Quilt Infatuation for Needle and Thread Thursday
and Sarah's blog Confessions of a Fabric Addict for Whoop Whoop Friday.

  1. Lovely landscape quilt, beautiful quilting. I love the strawberry binding on that georgous quilt.
    Love from Amsterdam

    1. Thank you Maartje - and we have both been sewing birds!

  2. Beautifully done sky and clouds. There is something very satisfying in very close line work isn't there. The variegated thread works really well too. As to music - a village, church, sky and clouds. Humm. Are we thinking serious - as in Elgar or Delius - or playful as in the theme tune to Miss Marple?

    1. Thanks Hilary! We're thinking seriously wistful, as in VW...

  3. The scrappy cot quilt turned out great! It looks way better than just 'fine.' And I cannot wait to see the whole 12 x 12 piece. Love, Linda

    1. Thanks Linda! ... and all is revealed in the latest post...
